Expanding Adapt2 B2B to include new SPP WEIS market operations as participants navigate connectivity testing into the new market.
HOUSTON, Texas (August 13, 2020) – Adapt2 Solutions, a leading provider of AI enabled multi-market operations and trading software, today announced the successful implementation of Adapt2 B2B for connectivity testing operations within SPP Western Energy Imbalance Service (WEIS) market. The SPP WEIS market is a newly introduced ISO market which has a participant commitment of 15 major energy organizations in the western United States. Adapt2 Solutions has a proven track record of success in the SPP market and adding the additional WEIS market to the existing Adapt2 platform will follow the vision that Adapt2 has had over the years, to have all ISOs in a single platform helping streamline market operations and create efficiencies for energy market participants.
The SPP market was founded in 1941 with 11 regional utilities, since then it has grown to serve over 270 energy market participants in 14 states. As more renewable energy enters the generation mix, several major energy generators and providers in the western United States saw a need to leverage the SPP market footprint to help manage the renewable intermittency and give them a cohesive market to buy and sell power within. In summer 2019 the SPP officially announced the proposal and design of the WEIS market. SPP’s Western Energy Imbalance Service Market (WEIS) will create opportunities for participants to take advantage of diverse generating resources, optimize their use of the Western Interconnection’s transmission system and minimize overall costs to their end-use customers. With any new ISO market, market participants will need tools to enable and optimize market participation.
“Seeing a new market forming and enabling participants to prepare for go-live is something that is very exciting to be a part of. Ensuring the proper API connections, interfaces and flow of data from the market participant and SPP WEIS side of operations prior to deadlines has helped strengthen our client partnerships with market participants joining SPP WEIS,” said Executive Vice President, Jason Kram.
Adapt2 is currently working with Tri-State Generation and Transmission to help streamline the processes and ensuring functionality and software is working properly as they continue their path toward market readiness. Together both organizations have been attending market meetings and collaborating in hopes of achieving a seamless market go-live in February 2021. Over the past few months, the focus has been on connectivity testing, as it is the first milestone in the SPP WEIS market readiness plan.
Starting in July 2020, the first phase of connectivity testing was underway, Tri-State Generation and Transmission (TGST) has performed very well with Adapt2 B2B during the connectivity testing phase and SPP has rated TSGT with a current “green” status for all connectivity status testing efforts to date. The success on connectivity testing positions TSGT well for the next phase of market trials – Structured Testing – which has recently begun.
