MT West

This past week Energy Marketing participants from both the Mountain West Region and SPP met to discuss Mt. West joining into SPP RTO. The goal of SPP is to give their participants the most cost effective way to manage reliability. Their mottos says it all

“Helping our members work together to keep the lights on… today and in the future.”

Adapt2 participates actively in SPP working group meetings and was in attendance as they started transition discussions in both Denver and Little Rock to welcome Mt. West into their RTO family.

The current state of this transition started in September when Mountain West Transmission Group (MWTG) decided to publicly announce results of discussions with SPP. This was known as the Second Triggering Event in the communication process. Thus this required SPP Staff to convene these special all-member and stakeholder meetings to discuss proposed document changes and analyses conducted to date.

The next steps will include changes to SPP Governing documents being presented for approval. In early 2018 continued data gathering, implementation tasks, resource acquistion, and software development will occur. FERC approval is predicted to range from late 2018 into 2019 followed by connectivity testing, trials, and parallel operations.

This is an extremely exciting time for both SPP and Mt. West and Adapt2 Solutions is pleased to be able to help market participants with these transitions!
