According to ISO New England, ISONE will make improvements to the Market Information Server (MIS) File Transfer Protocol (FTP) accounts and the related Customer and Asset Management System (CAMS) MIS Accounts functionality later this year. In order for participants to prepare for the coming changes affecting accessibility an MIS FTP sandbox environment was made available October 22, 2021 for at least 60 days. The MIS FTP sandbox environment is being offered for testing access to MIS reports using your preferred MIS FTP client and making updates to automated code you may have in place if needed. Access the MIS FTP sandbox via this link: sftp://misftpsb.iso-ne.com, port # 22.

Usernames will be preceded with the letter “S” in the MIS FTP sandbox environment. Usernames will NOT be updated to include the “S” prefix in production until later this year. This change will be made so that existing usernames, which are strictly numeric at this time, will comply with enhanced rules for creating usernames in the future.

Additionally, ISO New England states it will implement security configuration changes to the Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) service that serves the Market Information System (MIS) Reports later this year. ISONE says the nature of these changes will be to remove support for certain cryptographic algorithms used to secure data transfers. When an SFTP client and server communicate, they must agree on a cipher suite comprised of an encryption cipher, a message authentication code (MAC), and a key exchange algorithm (or KEX Algorithm). As of Friday, October 22, 2021, the ISO New England MIS SFTP sandbox servers only support the cipher suite algorithms listed:

Ciphers

  • chacha20-poly1305@openssh.com

  • aes128-ctr

  • aes192-ctr

  • aes256-ctr

  • aes128-gcm@openssh.com
